Book at this locationDietary management is one of the most powerful tools to slow CKD progression — and Indian cuisine has unique challenges. Dr. Anil Prasad Bhatt outlines stage-wise dietary modifications adapted specifically for North Indian food patterns.
Sodium (all stages): avoid pickles, papad, packaged snacks, restaurant food. Potassium (Stage 4-5): limit bananas, oranges, tomatoes, coconut water, potatoes; soak and boil vegetables to reduce potassium. Phosphorus (Stage 4-5): limit cola drinks, packaged foods, excess dairy, organ meats. Protein: 0.8 g/kg in CKD Stages 3-5 (vs 1.0 for healthy adults). Star fruit is absolutely contraindicated — neurotoxic in kidney patients.
